About

My Story... as a former custom luthier (Harper Resophonics 2003-2012), I had customers - many of whom lived out of state or country - often ask to see progress in the build of their instrument. Long before everyone carried a camera in their pocket, I researched and bought a DSLR camera to photograph the process, and - much to my surprise -  it became one of my favorite facets of building.

I shot primarily black and white - likely due to my exposure to Ansel Adams in my youth - and loved chasing all the lines, texture, and angles.  Surprisingly, I'd grow to enjoy the photography aspect as much as the building process.  As life changed and my family grew, so did my love of photography and the many opportunities for chasing light and capturing life. Have a baby, take their portrait.  Have another, take theirs too!  Kid plays a sport, take photos! Next kid plays, take photos for the whole organization!  Travel with family to mountains, beaches, and National Parks, shoot it all!

I'm currently based in North Carolina with my wife and three rowdy boys, where I can slip off to the mountains and the beach in just a few hours. I spend time in New York City, Coastal North/South Carolina, the North Carolina High Country, and as many State and National Parks as I can find.

In general, I work to find interesting perspectives of the world around me, so that we can be reminded of how life might and ought to be. My goal is to capture and present a distillation of that in nature and people which I consider worth cherishing. I work to capture and present something that reaches us - maybe an impressive situation of light, my take on a classic vista, a view that's unique, a scene from a favorite vacation spot, a new way at looking at reality, or an image of location that makes you feel nostalgic. I want to make images which make us feel alive.  I want to capture images which say about life, "This is good, and worth seeing over and over."

I enjoy shooting youth (since 2015), high-school (since 2019), and NCAA (since 2023) athletics, and specialize in football, baseball, volleyball, soccer, lacrosse, and wrestling, but I am able to shoot all other indoor and outdoor sports.

I'm available for collaborations, on-site or classroom workshops, editing or workflow consulting, and your family, individual, team, product, or special event imagery needs.  Have a question about camera gear, a location, or edit?  Reach out!
